NAIROBI, KENYA — Ghana’s Black Spikers have secured a place in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Africa Nations Women’s Volleyball Championship after navigating a demanding group-stage campaign in Nairobi.
Their progress has been built on resilience, recovery and decisive performances at key moments.
Ghana entered the championship on the back of a strong qualification campaign in Abidjan, where the team defeated Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Togo and Burkina Faso to earn its place among Africa’s leading volleyball nations.
The tournament itself began with a setback. Ghana fell in straight sets to Cameroon, exposing weaknesses that required an immediate response.
The Black Spikers answered with a determined display against West African rivals Nigeria, earning one valuable point to keep their campaign on track.
They then produced their breakthrough result against Tunisia.
GHANA OVERCOMES TUNISIA IN FIVE-SET THRILLER
Ghana defeated Tunisia 3–2 in a tense five-set contest, showing composure and resolve under pressure.
The victory revived Ghana’s momentum and strengthened its belief heading into the next stage. With Zambia standing between the Black Spikers and the quarter-finals, the team delivered again.
Ghana defeated Zambia 3–1 to secure its place among the championship’s final eight teams and book a quarter-final meeting with Rwanda.
RWANDA AWAITS
Ghana will face Rwanda on Tuesday, 1 September 2026, at the Kasarani Stadium Arena, with a semi-final place at stake.
The Black Spikers enter the contest with growing confidence, but the challenge will demand discipline, consistency and the same fighting spirit that carried them through the group stage.
From the defeat to Cameroon and the hard-earned point against Nigeria to the five-set triumph over Tunisia and the decisive win against Zambia, Ghana has steadily strengthened its campaign.
Now, the margin for error is smaller and the reward is greater.
Rwanda stands between Ghana and the semi-finals.
